Your hosts Colin and Lin Jackson have lived on the Westcoast their whole lives, they are more than happy to spend some time with you to talk about highlights of the local area.
Lin has had an association for 20 years with Diabetes and after traveling overseas is very conscious of the problems people have when on special diets and is willing to provide for them as long as notification is given when booking.
“We are equally conscious of allergies some people have and so have made this a pet free, non smoking zone. With Top View being on a hill it is also above smog levels.”
Lin as well as being a Life Member of the West Coast Diabetes Society and is the Unofficial Field Officer for the Club has a Diabetes New Zealand Award for services to Diabetes.
Colin has a “Lions Club” Life Membership and is interested in all sports but his active interest when younger was in Wood Chopping. At the age of 69 he won a chop at the “Royal Welsh Show” in Wales. This meant a lot to him as his Mother was born in Wales.
From a farming background Colin is able to share an insight into farming practices in New Zealand. Before coming to Hokitika he ran a large drystock farm, a New Zealand term for sheep and cattle farming. “We find many of the people who stay here are very interested not only in farming but also what we do with our timber.”
